Cult Cartoonists Modern Toss Bring “Having an exhibition yeah?” to London
Modern Toss (Jon Link & Mick Bunnage) bring their 21st Anniversary Exhibition, “Having an exhibition yeah?”, to London this summer, a full-scale show of more than two decades of their cartoon excellence.
Running from 14 August until 6 September 2026 hosted at The Drawing Room in Bermondsey SE1, the exhibition gathers some of Modern Toss’ best known artwork alongside brand-new pieces.
The show features over 100 Modern Toss artworks, including token-operated swearing machines, big stone heads, large-scale paintings, a wind-powered finger mill sculpture and a new 5m-wide ceiling mobile with four life-size flies hanging off it. During the exhibition, a looped set of 100 best cartoons and a look back on the animation and real life action from the Modern Toss collection will also be screened.
Jon will also host portrait sessions in the infamous Portrait Booth. A limited number of tickets will be on sale for a live drawing event where Jon sketches portraits from within a custom-built photo booth, with each sitter receiving a personal, original drawing posted to them through the wall of the booth.
The exhibition will also host a special one-off evening event during the run, with details to be announced. Sign up to the Modern Toss mailing list or follow @modern_toss for first word on tickets.
Among the new pieces on show is a working prototype of the UK Swear Map, an interactive artwork and archive created in collaboration with Dr Chris Montgomery of the University of Sheffield. The final full piece will map traditional swearing slang from across Britain and this early build will give visitors a first taste of how it’ll work, letting them hear regional filth at the push of a button, a nod to one of Modern Toss’ most recognisable pieces, The Periodic Table of Swearing.
Jon Link, co-founder of Modern Toss, said: ‘We’re really pleased to be showing the work in London. It’s the full sweep up of the last two decades, over 100 pieces, plus some brand-new stuff people haven’t seen before. Come along and have a look yeah?’
Each ticket includes a set of tokens to use on the interactive machines, including the world-famous Periodic Table of Swearing. On the way out there’s a shop, cheers…
Also for the first time, Jon is hosting a Make a Fly workshop. Build your own life size fly. Over two hours approximately, you’ll construct a fly from clay, wire, paint and hair. No previous making experience required, some of it is a bit fiddly, but this foolproof system means you’ll walk away with a fully made fly in its own little box. Places are limited to 20 and advance booking is essential.
