A new study has identified London as the top UK city for fine-dining steakhouse experiences.
The research, conducted by Prestigious UK Organic Estate company Rhug Estate, analysed fine-dining steakhouses across major UK cities. Utilising TripAdvisor as the primary data source, the study focused on fine-dining steakhouses rated 4 stars and above. By comparing the number of these establishments to each city’s land area, the study determined which cities offer the highest concentration of fine-dining steakhouses. Land area data was sourced from World Population Review.
London ranks first with one fine-dining steakhouse rated 4 stars or higher every 13.5 square miles. With 45 highly rated establishments across 607 square miles, steak enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy. Top-rated favourites include Elvet Steakhouse, known for its premium cuts and refined dining experience, and Gillray’s Steakhouse and Bar, a popular spot offering classic British steakhouse fare with views of the Thames.
Edinburgh holds the second position with one fine-dining steakhouse rated 4 stars or above every 14.6 square miles. The city boasts 7 highly acclaimed steakhouses spread across 102 square miles. Leading the selection are KYLOE Restaurant and Grill, praised for its expertly prepared dishes, and Le Petit Beef Bar Edinburgh, known for its lively ambience and premium cuts.
Glasgow takes the third position with one fine-dining steakhouse rated 4 stars or above every 17 square miles. The city is home to 4 notable steakhouses across its 68 square miles. Featured favourites include Porter and Rye, acclaimed for its innovative menu, and Dakota Bar & Grill, celebrated for its vibrant setting and quality steaks

Liverpool claims the fourth spot with one fine-dining steakhouse rated 4 stars or higher every 21.5 square miles. The city hosts 2 upscale steakhouses across its compact area of 43 square miles. Top picks include Gaucho Liverpool, praised for its Argentinian-style cuts and chic ambience, and Hawksmoor Liverpool, known for its classic steakhouse fare and elegant setting.
Belfast lands in fifth place with one fine-dining steakhouse rated 4 stars or above every 22.2 square miles. Spanning 44.4 square miles, the city features 2 premium steakhouse destinations. Among the top-rated options are The Meat Locker, known for its refined presentation and rich flavours, and James St, a modern favourite offering expertly grilled cuts in a relaxed setting.
Manchester placed sixth with one upscale steakhouse every 22.3 square miles, just behind Belfast (5th) with a ratio of 22.2. Birmingham followed closely in seventh, offering one highly rated steakhouse every 25.9 square miles. Nottingham secured the eighth spot with a ratio of 28.8, while Stoke-on-Trent came in ninth at 36.0. Completing the top ten was Newcastle upon Tyne, which featured one fine-dining steakhouse for every 44.9 square miles.
